A poem became a significant sign in my transition from fundamentalist religion, to an inclusive God-image. I came upon a poem by John Greenleaf Whittier, "The Eternal Goodness." I read these lyrics:
Not mine to look where cherubim And seraphs may not see, But nothing can be good in Him Which evil is in me.
The wrong that pains my soul below I dare not throne above, I know not of His hate, - I know His goodness and His love.
Since reading that poem in the 1990s, the image of Presence living within me has changed significantly. I anticipate it will continue to change. And, I bow, not to any God of the mind, but the Infinity living within the heart.

To reverence the Holy, I must follow this path of change in perception of the Sacred. Not only must I follow this way, I want to follow this way, for Love urges me on, by Grace. While ideas and images change, I know That within my heart that that does not change - the "Amen."
